Where learning begins with curiosity.
Every generation inherits a world shaped by the knowledge, ideas and imagination of the generation before it. But every child also has the power to see that world differently. This is how Novora thinks about publishing for them.
About Novora
A question can challenge an assumption. A story can change a perspective. A book can introduce an unfamiliar world. A new idea can become a lifelong interest. And a moment of understanding can become the foundation of confidence.
At Novora Learning, we believe that children's publishing has the extraordinary responsibility, and privilege, of being present during these formative years.
We are building Novora as an education-focused publishing house with a clear purpose: to create books and learning experiences that help children understand more, imagine further and become confident lifelong learners.
Our publishing philosophy brings together educational purpose, editorial rigour, creativity, visual intelligence and a deep respect for the child as a reader and learner.
We believe a children's book should never underestimate its reader. It should invite curiosity. It should respect intelligence. It should make room for imagination. And wherever possible, it should leave the child with a desire to discover something beyond the final page.
Because the quality of a child's learning experience matters
Education is often discussed in terms of curriculum, classrooms, examinations and outcomes. All of these matter. But there is another dimension that is sometimes less visible: the quality of the learning experience.
What does a child feel when opening a book? Does the content invite exploration or simply demand memorisation? Does the language clarify or complicate? Do the illustrations illuminate an idea or merely fill a page? Does an activity encourage genuine thinking? Does a story create empathy? Does a question lead to another question?
These details may appear small. For a growing mind, they are not. The books children encounter during their formative years can influence how they perceive reading, knowledge and even their own ability to learn.
Novora was conceived from this conviction. We want to create educational resources that children can learn from, and genuinely want to spend time with.
An idea rooted in education and opportunity
Novora's story is connected to a broader belief in the transformative power of education. The experience behind its founding has not been limited to publishing. It has also included entrepreneurship, institution-building and social initiatives focused on creating opportunities for communities and young people.
This wider perspective has shaped a fundamental conviction: education is not simply a service. It is an instrument of possibility.
Through Amber Foundation, education-related initiatives have included scholarships, learning materials, coaching and mentoring programmes, with the Foundation publicly identifying education and empowerment among its areas of work. These experiences have helped shape the thinking behind Novora.
There is an important difference between helping a child gain access to education and helping that child experience high-quality learning. Both matter. Access opens the door. Quality helps a child move forward. Novora is being built to contribute to the second part of that journey.
To make good learning more accessible through good publishing
At its heart, Novora is a publishing company. Our responsibility begins with the book. But our purpose extends beyond the physical object. We want to create resources that can help children:
- develop strong foundations;
- discover the pleasure of reading;
- understand concepts rather than merely memorise them;
- express themselves with confidence;
- ask meaningful questions;
- develop imagination and creativity;
- connect knowledge with everyday life;
- build the confidence to learn independently.
The long-term aspiration is to create a publishing programme where quality, accessibility and educational purpose reinforce one another.
The child is not the market. The child is the reader.
This distinction matters. A children's book may be purchased by a parent, recommended by a teacher, selected by a school and distributed by an institution. But ultimately, its relationship is with the child. That relationship must be earned.
At Novora, we therefore seek to view every publication through the eyes of its intended reader. Is it understandable? Is it interesting? Is it appropriately challenging? Does it respect the child's intelligence? Does it make the subject feel approachable? Does it create a sense of discovery? Does it encourage the reader to continue?
This child-first perspective is consistent with a broader principle seen in leading children's publishers internationally: the strongest books are developed with a clear understanding of the young reader rather than treating children simply as recipients of information. For Novora, this becomes a central editorial discipline.
Every page should earn its place
We believe a children's book should be purposeful without becoming predictable. A page may introduce a concept. It may tell a story. It may pose a question. It may provide an example. It may invite an activity. It may offer a visual explanation. It may simply create a moment of wonder. But every element should have a reason to exist.
Our approach is therefore built around a simple editorial question: what does this page give the child? Sometimes the answer will be knowledge. Sometimes confidence. Sometimes vocabulary. Sometimes imagination. Sometimes a new way of looking at the world. The strongest pages may do several of these things at once.
Knowledge, imagination and understanding
We believe children need all three. Knowledge gives children a foundation. Imagination gives them possibilities. Understanding gives them the ability to connect the two.
A child learning about space should not only remember the names of planets. They should be encouraged to wonder what it would be like to travel beyond Earth. A child learning about animals should not only identify species. They should begin to appreciate habitats, interdependence and the natural world. A child reading a story about friendship should not only follow the plot. They should have an opportunity to think about trust, kindness, disagreement and perspective.
This is the kind of learning experience Novora seeks to encourage. Facts should inform. Stories should illuminate. Questions should deepen. Imagination should expand.
Accurate enough to trust. Engaging enough to remember.
Educational publishing requires a careful balance. Content must be reliable. But reliability alone does not make a child want to read. Engagement matters. Clarity matters. Structure matters. Visual communication matters. Language matters. Pacing matters. The cumulative experience matters.
International publishers such as DK explicitly combine subject expertise, editorial collaboration, visual communication and accuracy in their children's publishing. Novora intends to develop its own version of this discipline. Our aspiration is rigour without heaviness, simplicity without superficiality, creativity without losing purpose, visual appeal without compromising substance, and ambition without losing the child.
Great books are made, not merely printed
The finished book is only the visible part of publishing. Behind it lies a process of decisions. A subject must be selected. A learning objective must be established. The content must be researched. The manuscript must be developed. The language must be refined. The structure must be tested. Illustrations must be commissioned. The visual hierarchy must be considered. The pages must be edited. The entire publication must be reviewed. And finally, every element must come together as one coherent experience.
We therefore see publishing as a craft as much as a business. The difference between an ordinary educational book and a memorable one is often found in the details.
Thoughtful in purpose. Rigorous in content. Beautiful in execution.
Six principles that guide our books
- 01 Clarity Children should not have to fight through unnecessary complexity to understand an idea.
- 02 Curiosity Content should create reasons to keep exploring.
- 03 Accuracy Educational information must be responsibly researched and reviewed.
- 04 Relevance Learning becomes stronger when children can connect ideas with their lives and surroundings.
- 05 Inclusion Children should encounter a broad, respectful and thoughtful representation of people and experiences.
- 06 Joy Learning should leave room for delight.
These principles are not intended as marketing language. They are intended as editorial questions.
Different ages. Different questions. Different books.
A three-year-old and a ten-year-old may both be curious about animals. But they do not need the same book. Their vocabulary is different. Their attention span is different. Their cognitive development is different. Their questions are different. Their ability to interpret visual information is different.
Good children's publishing recognises this. Novora therefore aims to develop content with careful attention to age, reading ability, language development, conceptual complexity, attention span, visual comprehension, social and emotional development, and learning objectives.
The intention is not to make every book "easy". It is to make each book appropriately challenging.
Simple does not mean simplistic
We believe children deserve rich language. But rich language should remain accessible. Our editorial approach aims to avoid two extremes: language that talks down to children, and language that unnecessarily talks over them.
Children can encounter sophisticated ideas when those ideas are introduced thoughtfully. A good book can expand vocabulary without overwhelming the reader. It can introduce a new word and give the child enough context to understand it. It can challenge a child without making the child feel incapable. Our aim is to stretch understanding without breaking confidence.
Designed to be seen. Designed to be understood.
Visual communication is particularly important in children's publishing. Illustration can establish context before a sentence is read. A diagram can make relationships visible. A sequence can make a process understandable. A map can transform geography into something tangible. A visual comparison can make scale meaningful.
At Novora, we want design and editorial content to work together. Words should explain. Images should illuminate. Layout should guide. The page should communicate as a whole.
This reflects an important strength of contemporary children's publishing, where visual storytelling and information design increasingly work alongside written content rather than functioning merely as decoration. DK's children's publishing, for example, places strong emphasis on visual approaches to knowledge and collaboration between editors, authors and designers.
Because children remember what they feel
A story can carry an idea further than an explanation alone. It can make a child care about a character. It can create tension. It can create surprise. It can make a decision meaningful. It can make an abstract value tangible.
Novora intends to use storytelling wherever it can deepen understanding. Not every story needs a moral. Not every lesson needs a story. But when narrative can make a concept more memorable, meaningful or human, we believe it deserves a place in educational publishing.
A book should open doors, not close them
The end of a book should not necessarily mean the end of learning. It can be the beginning of another question.
- A child reads about oceans.
- Then asks why the sea is salty.
- Then discovers marine life.
- Then learns about plastic pollution.
- Then starts thinking about conservation.
The book has done more than communicate information. It has created momentum. This is the kind of relationship with knowledge we want Novora books to encourage.
Thoughtful innovation, not technology for its own sake
The digital world has changed how children encounter information. We recognise that reality. But we do not believe every printed page needs a digital layer. Technology should be introduced when it meaningfully extends the learning experience. That may include narrated stories, pronunciation support, demonstrations, supplementary explanations, interactive activities, audio experiences, teacher resources and parent resources.
Our principle is straightforward: if technology improves the learning experience, use it thoughtfully. If it does not, the book should remain enough.
A child never learns alone
Behind a child's learning journey is an ecosystem. There are parents, teachers, schools, libraries, authors, illustrators, educational institutions, communities, technology and, increasingly, social organisations working to improve access to education.
Novora sees itself as one participant within this ecosystem. Our role is to create high-quality educational content. But our aspiration is to collaborate with the people who use, teach, recommend and experience that content. The best publishing is informed by the people it serves.
Building a culture of learning at home
Parents do not need another set of instructions. They need resources that make meaningful interaction possible.
A story before bedtime. A question at the breakfast table. A puzzle during a weekend afternoon. A science experiment at home. A conversation about something the child has discovered.
These small moments can shape how children perceive learning. Novora wants its books to create more of these moments.
Respecting the expertise in the classroom
Teachers bring something to education that no publisher can reproduce from a desk: lived classroom experience. They know when a concept has landed. They recognise confusion before a test reveals it. They understand the different ways children respond to the same explanation.
Novora therefore wants teachers to be more than users of our books. We want them to be contributors to our thinking. Their feedback can help us improve content, activities, sequencing, language and usability.
From supplier to educational partner
We want Novora to build relationships with schools that go beyond catalogue and procurement. Schools understand their students. Teachers understand their classrooms. Parents understand their children. Publishers understand how to turn educational objectives into books. When these perspectives come together, better resources can emerge.
Novora therefore sees institutional partnerships as opportunities for dialogue. What are students finding difficult? What resources are missing? Which concepts require greater reinforcement? How can reading become more engaging? How can books support teachers rather than burden them?
These conversations should influence what we publish next.
Relevant to Indian children. Open to the world.
Every child should find a place in the world of books
Children's books help shape a child's understanding of people beyond their immediate surroundings. That creates a responsibility. Books can introduce different families, cultures, communities, professions, abilities, places and perspectives.
We want Novora's publishing programme to reflect the diversity of the world children inhabit, while avoiding stereotypes and ensuring that representation serves the story or learning purpose authentically. The principle is simple: children should be able to see themselves, and they should also have opportunities to see beyond themselves.
Rooted in India
Novora is being built in India. That matters. Indian children deserve books that understand their context: their festivals, their languages, their families, their landscapes, their schools, their aspirations, their everyday experiences.
But relevance should not become limitation. A child in India should also be able to discover the Arctic, the Amazon, ancient civilisations, modern science, distant cultures, space exploration, global environmental challenges and ideas emerging around the world.
Our ambition is therefore: deeply relevant at home, broadly curious about the world.
Learning has no borders
The best children's publishing travels across cultures because curiosity is universal. Questions about space, animals, friendship, science, adventure, nature, history and the future belong to children everywhere.
International publishers have demonstrated how children's content can travel across languages and markets while retaining its core educational and creative value. Novora's long-term ambition is to build content capable of travelling too. Created in India. Designed with global standards in mind. Intended to speak to curious children everywhere.
To build a publishing house that earns trust over time
We are not measuring Novora's future only by the number of titles we publish. A large catalogue is easy to describe. A trusted catalogue is much harder to build.
We want parents to recognise the Novora name and feel confident placing a book in a child's hands. We want teachers to know that the content has been thoughtfully developed. We want schools to see consistency. We want authors and illustrators to see Novora as a serious creative partner. And most importantly, we want children to recognise a Novora book as an invitation to discover something worth knowing.
From books to a learning ecosystem
Novora begins with publishing. But publishing can become a foundation for something broader. Over time, our vision may encompass children's books, learning series, reading programmes, teacher resources, parent resources, audio learning, digital supplements, educational partnerships, institutional programmes, social-impact initiatives and international publishing opportunities.
The objective is not expansion for its own sake. Every new direction should strengthen the central purpose: helping children learn better, think independently and imagine more.
Our standard
- Thoughtful in purpose Every publication should have a reason to exist.
- Rigorous in content Educational material should be accurate, responsible and carefully reviewed.
- Clear in communication Children should be able to understand without being underestimated.
- Creative in expression Ideas should be brought to life through words, images and experiences.
- Respectful of the reader Children deserve books that take their intelligence seriously.
- Relevant to the world Books should help children understand both their immediate environment and the wider world.
- Responsible in ambition Growth should never come at the expense of quality.
We will keep asking better questions
What does this child need? What will make this idea clearer? What could make this story more meaningful? How can this page encourage curiosity? What would make the activity genuinely useful? Could the illustration explain something the words cannot? Is the language rich enough to develop the reader? Is the content accurate enough to deserve trust? Could this book inspire the child to explore beyond it?
We may not always have the perfect answer. But we believe good publishing begins with asking the right questions. And we intend to keep asking them.
Our future is a child turning the page
Perhaps the simplest way to describe Novora is this: we are creating books for children who are still becoming who they will be. Some will become scientists. Some teachers. Some artists. Some engineers. Some entrepreneurs. Some doctors. Some writers. Some leaders. Some will choose paths that do not yet exist.
We cannot know what every child will become. But we can help give them something valuable along the way: knowledge to build upon, curiosity to keep exploring, confidence to keep trying, imagination to see possibilities, and a love of learning that can travel with them throughout their lives.
That is the opportunity we see in publishing. That is the responsibility we accept. And that is the journey Novora is beginning.
Learn. Explore. Imagine. Grow.
Novora Learning — a publishing house for curious minds and growing futures.

Publishing with a larger sense of purpose
Novora is a commercial publishing enterprise. We believe commercial sustainability matters because a publishing house that cannot sustain itself cannot continue creating books. But sustainability and purpose do not need to be opposing ideas.
The background to Novora includes a demonstrated interest in education and social development through Amber Foundation. The Foundation publicly identifies Wafa Abbas as Founder and Chairperson and describes initiatives involving education, scholarships, coaching, mentorship and broader community development.
That experience has influenced the philosophy behind Novora. Quality should create value. Scale should create reach. Success should create possibilities. Over time, we intend to explore responsible ways of extending access to educational resources through partnerships and social-impact initiatives.
Two organisations. One broader belief in opportunity.
Novora Learning and Amber Foundation have distinct identities and distinct purposes. Novora is a publishing company. Amber Foundation is a social-impact organisation. The connection is philosophical rather than organisational: both recognise the transformative power of education.
Amber Foundation's education-related work has included scholarships, educational support, coaching and mentoring initiatives. Novora's contribution is to the quality and availability of learning resources. This creates a natural continuum:
This is not merely a corporate association. It is part of the story that gave Novora its purpose.
